Anyone Can Make Promises
Michael Solomon Gets Results.
Dear Ward 5 neighbor
“I know how to make city government work for the people of Ward 5. We need that now more than ever as skyrocketing prices squeeze seniors, working families, and young professionals alike. This is a moment to elect proven leadership.
I’m running for City Council to solve real problems, not make empty promises. During my last term, we created a housing fund to help residents get into homes, eliminated a $110 million deficit, funded our police, and protected hotel workers from exploitation. Now I’m asking for your vote to address the affordability crisis and keep our neighborhoods safe and beautiful for generations to come.”

Meet Michael
Michael Solomon has a proven record of making government work for you and your family.
Michael Solomon has spent nearly his entire life in Ward 5. The second-oldest of four children, he grew up on Modena Avenue in Elmhurst with a family that emphasized hard work and public service. His mother, Sarah, was the backbone of their family. At the same time, his father, Anthony, owned a neighborhood drugstore where Michael stocked shelves and helped customers, a place that felt like an extension of the community. Anthony Solomon also served in elected office, first as a State Representative and later as General Treasurer. Watching his father taught Michael how government can improve people’s lives, from small acts like fixing a neighbor’s sidewalk to major initiatives such as creating the state’s first controlled substances policy and unclaimed property tax program.
As a young man, Michael began his entrepreneurial career by co-founding the iconic Wes Rib House, which he operated for almost four decades. He also owned several other restaurants, such as Providence Coal Fire Pizza. Michael’s understanding of ethics has been shaped by hiring thousands of employees and signing countless paychecks. He learned firsthand how government can help small businesses compete with large corporations and how regulations can protect workers without unfairly burdening employers.
Michael served as Ward 5 City Councilor for two terms, one of them as council president. During his tenure, he successfully led efforts to address problems facing Providence residents. He led efforts to close the biggest deficit in city history without cutting essential services like schools and public safety, created a housing trust fund to help get residents into homes, and passed landmark legislation to help protect hotel workers from unfair working conditions. He brought transparency to the city with the creation of the open government portal, allowing access to meeting records, minutes and documents. He led the charge that saved our community libraries.
